Usage rights calculator for creators
Usage rights are where creators most often undercharge. This calculator estimates a fair usage fee as a percentage of your own base rate — so you charge for the reach and longevity the brand actually gets.
Transparent inputs, adjustable percentages, no invented market prices. A starting point for your negotiation.

How much should you charge for usage rights?
Usage is usually priced as a percentage of your content fee, scaling with how far the brand can spread the content and for how long. A short paid-social licence often adds roughly a third to a half of your base rate; a long or all-channels licence can equal or exceed it. Enter your base rate below to see a suggested range built from your own number.
A starting range built from your own base rate and common creator practice — not a market price. Adjust for your niche, engagement, and the brand's budget.
How this is calculated
The fee is a percentage of the base rate you entered, so it scales with your own pricing rather than a made-up benchmark. The percentages (shown as a low–high range) are:
- Usage type — organic post only: 0%; brand reposts (no paid): 15–25%; paid social: 30–50%; full paid media: 50–100%.
- Duration multiplies that: 1 month ×0.7, 3 months ×1.0, 6 months ×1.4, 12 months ×1.8, perpetual ×2.5.
- Whitelisting and worldwide each add 5–10%.
These are common-practice starting points, not authoritative market rates. Treat the result as an opening position and adjust for your niche, engagement, and the brand.
Start from your rate, not a benchmark
The reason this calculator asks for your base rate first is simple: there is no single "market price" for usage that would be honest to quote you. What a licence is worth depends on your own content fee, your niche, and what the brand is actually buying. So instead of inventing a number, the tool takes the one figure that's genuinely yours and scales it.
Use the result as an opening position. Lead with the base content fee and the usage fee itemised separately, so the brand can see they're paying for two different things — the content, and the right to run it. If they want to reduce the number, you can narrow the usage (shorter duration, fewer channels) rather than discount your work.
